Strathmore Disc Golf Club Strathmore Disc Golf Club is a group of disc golf enthusiasts in Strathmore who wanted to further the sport and create a structured environment to build community and competition around disc golf. This club, originally led by Matt Byma and Aaron Peterson, took over from SAY at the end of the 2015-2016 school year and became a registered society in Alberta on October 14, 2016. The Strathmore Disc Golf Club works very closely with the Town of Strathmore to ensure the course works well for both the golfers and the many residents that line our course. As a club, we try to teach proper disc golf etiquette to limit the number of discs that end up in yards and to speak with the homeowners when a disc needs to be retrieved.
The club has been active in holding tournaments, regular league nights, winter putting league, and even a Jr. league beginning in 2017. We currently have over 30 active members and many other players in the area who aren't yet members. Most up to date information can be found on our Facebook page. Our current board is:
President - Matt Byma
Vice-President - Jon Dirks
Treasurer - Randy Dirks
Secretary - Glen Van Bussel
Board Members - Pamela Seabrook, Todd Kennedy, Adam West, Michelle Buekert, Brad Lewko
In 2014 the Strathmore Assembly of Youth, a group of engaged teens, undertook the task of designing and building a disc golf course in the community of Strathmore, AB. Located 30 minutes east of Calgary on the Trans Canada Highway, our course opened on Canada Day of 2015 with a competitive tournament for experienced players, followed by lessons for newcomers to the sport.
The 18 hole course has cement tee pads, Mach 5 baskets, and signage at each hole. It is open for ANY ONE at ANY TIME (even in the winter!) and is completely FREE. All you need to enjoy it is a disc (a frisbee will work). We are so excited to see people using the course - you make our hard work worth it!
The Town of Strathmore is responsible for course maintenance - if you notice any issues or damage, please call the Town at 403-934-3133.
